Show 1: Northern Lights

Designer Gitta Gschwendtner has transformed our mezzanine space into a dramatic installation for London Design Festival 2010. Fluorescent lighting and furniture are encased in a rubberised room, creating an exceptional sensory experience.
Inspired by the radical and minimalist work of Dan Flavin, utilitarian fluorescent tubing and industrial rubber strips are placed alongside refined contemporary objects designed by Stefan Diez, Tom Dixon, Piergiorgio Cazzaniga & Michele Cazzaniga.
Fluorescent tubing fills the room with red light, generating a monotone effect, altering the viewers sense of both colour and perspective.
Timed bursts of white light illuminate the space revealing the fluorescent Houdini Chairs, Offcut Stools and found ephemera. These objects sit vividly against the backdrop of the pure white Tense Table, Random Shelves and Bessy Armchair.
The white light cuts out as dramatically as it arrived. The room basks in its original red glow, providing camouflage to the objects once more.
In addition to this, the larger downstairs space is devoted to highlighting some of our most exciting, contemporary design, including Vincent Van Duysen’s Totem for Pastoe, and Niels’ Bentsen's Sleeper Sofa for Bensen among others.
