Behind the curatorial process: part 3

Our physical space may be temporarily closed, but we are still very much open for business. As we transition into spring we’re casting our minds ahead to new additions for the showroom.

We wanted to share a little of the stories and inspiration behind our curatorial process and our favourite pieces of the moment. This is the third post in our series; you can see the first post here and the second post here.

Room Set Three - Tunisian Pastels and Jewel Tones.

Our third scene is inspired by the soft palette of this Tunisian style tile mosaic. Each colour distinct yet harmonious when set alongside each other.

The first piece chosen is the KN04 Lounge Chair by Piero Lissoni for Knoll, it has a sculptural, organic shape that sits atop a barely-there frame, the resulting compact footprint make it a great choice for corners and smaller spaces.

We’ve paired this with the Alu Table by Muller Van Severen for Valerie Objects, perhaps not obvious bedfellows, but its jewel-toned sharp planes offer contrast to the fluid lines of the KN04. The tables also have an industrial hammer blown finish which adds texture as well as making suitable for both indoor and outdoor spaces.

Alongside the Alu Table we have chosen the Pawn Table by Marie Michielssen for Serax, lightweight and easy to move around, it can be used as a stool or a side table, it makes a great accent piece. We’ve chosen the enamelled terracotta finish to add a pop of warm colour to our scene.

Underneath the furniture sits the Nuna Rug designed by Ignacia Murtagh. Handwoven by Peruvian artisans, Nuna is inspired by Atacama, the world’s driest desert. Once every four years, the deserts infertile earth is “embroidered with a veil of flowers resembling a colourful rug over the fields.” Made from llama and alpaca suri wool it is incredibly soft and adds gentle warmth and serenity to a space.

Lastly we have lit our set with the Flamingo Light. Designed by Antoni Arola for Vibia, this striking design is both aesthetically and technically unique. Flamingo uses a translucent thermoplastic diffuser to direct the LED light source so that it performs like a spotlight but with a soft diffuse glow. Its layered structure is visually light and casts interesting silhouettes wherever it is used.
