Private Residence in Krakow, Studio Mills

Designers and twin sisters, Kirsty and Jayne Mills of Studio Mills created this light, open living space for a client who wanted a home they could just 'turn the key and walk into.'

Keenly aware of the short hours of daylight in the winter in Krakow, the duo wanted to create an environment that was bright, spacious and imbued with a sense of tranquility. The aim was to create a space that reflected as much of the natural light as possible, making the most of the apartment's penthouse location.

To do so they employed a light materials palette, white walls and a mix of pastels and soft grey's are interpersed with pops of bold hues for the furniture pieces. Bespoke joinery in pale woods and white lacquer adds to the overall simple, contemporary design.

Viaduct worked with Studio Mills to supply, deliver and install the furniture for this project.

Verdant green and mustard yellow accent colours were chosen for the smaller furniture pieces, adding interest and depth to the materials palette.

A full-height library wall made from white lacquered plywood was made for the living area.

The Living area is divided into lounge and kitchen space. The dining table features a mixture of chairs in varying shades.

Pale blue also features in both the sleeping and living areas. Contrasting soft textile prints provide texture and interest.

The simplicity of the design is enhanced by the choice of furniture and lighting with smooth geometric forms such as the Tab Table Light by Barber & Osgerby for Flos.

The bedroom is softened with dove grey walls and soft concrete and brass detailing, such as on the JWDA Lamp by Jonas Wagnell for Menu.
