An exceptional grade II listed building in the heart of Somerset becomes a hotel nestled quietly amongst gardens, orchards, lakes and woodlands. Designed by former Elle Decoration South Africa editor Karen Roos.
Viaduct are delighted to have worked closely with Karen Roos, and her team, for the last 2 years providing furniture & lighting throughout The Newt in Somerset. The exceptional development of Grade II listed Hadspen House and its grounds has enabled us to work on both the interior and exterior spaces.
Originally built in 1690, the house has been painstakingly restored and reimagined in a way that celebrates its Georgian origins. From the Cyder Press Courtyard, bedrooms, spa, dining room and lounges, it has been a pleasure working on such a beautiful project and with a creative team that has such clarity of vision.

The bedrooms within Habspen House nod to the Georgian history of the building. The furniture selection blends old and new with contemporary pieces such as the e15 Habibi Table nestled with 20th-century classics like the DCW Éditions table light, as well as antique items.
A refined palette of greens and blues and mustard is utilised on the walls and in the rich velvet upholstery seen here on the New York Suite Sofa by Saba Italia.
Beyond the main house, there is the original horse yard built of honey-coloured Hadspen stone that is transformed into guest accommodation whilst retaining the essence of its equestrian past. The creative luxury of these rooms celebrates their heritage as horse boxes. Hay mangers sit beautifully next to king size beds and stalls with wood-burning stoves and tie-rings, with luxury en suite bathrooms.
The Bar employs a vibrant selection of pinks, oranges, purples and mint green that offset the inky blue walls. The woven chairs give visual lightness as well as a touch of informality that encourages visitors to unwind.
The Botanical Room houses a restaurant that serves dishes made with ingredients grown on-site, as well as sourced from local suppliers. Dark wood panelling is complemented with verdant greens and greys.

The property also includes 300 acres of woodlands and orchards. Apples from the orchard are turned into six varieties of traditional Cyder and served here at the Cyder Bar.
