'Our process was driven by the search for a way to hold on to the aspirational excitement of a hotel stay while enjoying the advantages of something more akin to a home in one's adoptive city no matter how long - or short - the stay.' - Grzywinski + Pons

The designers were faced with the challenge of taking a blank canvas and creating a convivial and welcoming atmosphere. As the structure was still being for the duration the project the designers were able to put their stamp on some of the interior architectural features such as a feature staircase. 

'The reception and the cafe-bar space are bifurcated by the lift lobby and we designed them to be distinct from one another yet congruent in their prioritization of light, warmth and texture.'

Wanting to avoid the use of 'transformer' furniture, such as folding beds, that are often features of aparthotels, Grzywinski + Pons instead designed a series of custom elements for the rooms utilising as bespoke joinery and furniture. These custom designs were augmented with a selection of furniture and lighting pieces supplied by Viaduct including Stefan Diez's This Chair for e15, the Wireflow light by Arik Levy for Vibia, the Tonella Chair by Note Design Studio for Sancal, and the Airy Coffee Table by Cecilie Manz for Muuto.

Geometric lighting suspended above the bar area compliments the architectural details.

Muted pastels contrast with raw concrete and pale wood floors creating warmth, texture and depth.

A spiral staircase leading to the restaurant area uses flowing organic forms that contrast neatly with the more angular elements of the design.

Soft seating elements are upholstered in rich mustard toned velvet, again creating visual contrast with the muted violet-blue of the walls.

Details such as the marble finish of the bar are harmoniously repeated in the smaller elements of furniture.

Sleeping areas make judicious use of textiles and rugs in neutral tones, placing the focus on textural relationships.

Custom designed elements such as the wardrobe are blended with furniture items by other designers such as Stefan Diez's This Chair for e15, each reinforcing the idea of simplicity and spaciousness.

Throughout the space mustard tones such as the base of this coffee table, create interest and reinforce the boldness of the upholstery.
