London Private Residence, Sam Watkins McRae

Sam Watkins McRae was commissioned by a young family to design the interior for their newly acquired four bedroom Modernist house. Watkins took inspiration from the architectural layout, making the most of the building's front to back view.

A materials palette of soaped oak, dusty blues, whites and neutrals was accented with yellow and black elements to create a playful, modern environment.

Viaduct helped to supply the furniture for the project. Each item was carefully selected for it's 'lean and modern lineage', it was of key importance that each element was not not just elegant but durable. The David Chipperfield designed Fayland and Langley for e15 provided a dining area that was robust but also discrete, it's slim profiles accentuating the lines of the building itself.

The starting point for the design was the front to back view of the building. This sense of space and depth was crucial to retain for the designer.

Geometric textiles and furniture are softened by the curved lines of the About A Chair.

The basic palette of neutrals is warmed up with the use of soaped oak and copper. Mustard yellow and dusty blue elements add a sense of playfulness to the surroundings.

In the living area, a more restrained palette is used creating a more tranquil, reflective space. Interest is added through judicious use of textures such as the marble of the TS Side Table and the layering of different woven fabrics throughout the upholstery and soft furnishings.
