Product Story

Named after the Finnish word for daddy long-legs, the Lukki Chair was originally designed for the student halls of Helsinki University of Technology.

The stackable chair comprises a tubular steel frame and Artek's characteristic birch wood seat, back and armrests. The arms were specifically designed by Ilmari Tapiovaara to be short enough that the students could pull the chair close to a desk or table, allowing for comfort while studying for long periods of time.

Lightweight, versatile and extremely hardwearing, today the Lukki Chair can be used in a wide range of settings and is available in a choice of three colours: black, sage green or white.

This ambition and the resulting furniture made them one of the forerunners of modern design.

Artek is perhaps best known for their Alvar Aalto furniture pieces such as the Stool 60 or Chair 69. But other seminal pie...
