Furniture and Lighting company Mater have ethics and sustainability at the heart of everything they produce. CEO Henrik Marstrand says "as a manufacturer, we have the opportunity to rethink dubious practices and create ethical and sustainable design that minimises adverse social and environmental impacts."
With a focus on sourcing natural and recycled materials, Mater designs are known not just for using wood, leather and stone but also recycled paper, recovered ocean waste plastic and even food waste in their products.
They also produce their products responsibly using both ancient and modern techniques, working with old woodturning communities or those skilled in ancient sand-casting techniques in Northern India or utilising suppliers that use innovative modern techniques such LED lighting or EU eco label textiles.
Standout products include Mater's stools such as the Shell Bar Stool, or their Nestor Chair which nods to traditional Danish design archetypes but focuses on using sustainable and recycled materials in it's production.
Viaduct is an official UK dealer of Mater furniture and lighting.
